THE CLASS
(15) 2009 France 128mins Subtitled

Winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2008, master French director Laurent Cantet's The Class is an absorbing journey into a multicultural high school in Paris over the course of a school year. Partially improvised, using a real (ex)teacher and real school kids in note-perfect performances, Cantet’s film recreates life in a tough inner-city school with breathtaking authenticity. “This is a classroom drama Hollywood could never have made.” Daily Mirror

Torbay Film Club Viewer Feedback Score: 7.24/10

Torbay Film Club Viewer Comments:

-  Very realistic movie portraying real school life.

- Excellent film.

- An illuminating view of aspects of French education and mercifully free of the sentimental "feel good factor" that afflicts American films on similar subjects.

- Insightful and thought provoking.  Students are not actors so it makes the "documentary" real.  Read the book before though.

- Filming good technically.  Teacher precipitated crisis by joining in the slanging!

- Excellent improv acting.

- Too true to be comfortable!

- Interesting.

- Didn't enjoy it - too loud - too long.

- Didn't see the point.

- Too loud.
